At first glance this is just a normal track running West through this Duchy of Cornwall Forest. It is actually the remains of the track bed of the famous Liskeard and Caradon Railway, constructed around 1840 to move copper ore from the mines around the Caradon Hill area to the quay at Moorswater and thence on to Looe and finally the smelting plants in South Wales. Before the advent of steam locomotives it used horses to pull the wagons up to the mines and gravity to go down. The railway finally closed in 1916 but look to your left and right and you will see the original fence posts and wire which over 100 years later are the only evidence of its existence.
