An alien (i.e. introduced to the UK) first recorded on the Buckland Hills in May 1960, found only in this immediate area (although commonly planted in gardens). This large gentian is a native of the high mountains of southern Europe, where it is avoids calcareous soils, in total contrast to this site here, on the chalk, a fact which led to it originally being misidentified as Gentiana clusii.
