Six Mile Bottom, Cambridgeshire

Pub sign: 'The Green Man', Six Mile Bottom

A curious re-interpretation of a traditional pagan name. The image looks as if it may derive from an early 19th century painting. Judging by his mode of dress this 'green man' is probably a poacher. In any case, he has bagged a brace of pheasants (hanging from the ladder-stile), a couple of hares, a partridge, along with other - lesser - game.
