The grave reads " From 16th November 1858 to 5th March 1991 this was the resting place of Lieutenant General Lazar Meszaros Supreme Commander of the Army and Minister of the National Defence in the first independent Hungarian Government in 1848 - 1849. His remains were exhumed on the 5th March 1991 and re-interred with full military honours in the cathedral at Baja on the 15 March 1991. The Government of the Hungarian republic "
