Marsh Moss, Lancashire

Section of drainage ditch on Marsh Moss

Uploader's Comments

The ditch has been recently excavated and is about 10 feet deep. There is about 4 feet of silty loam overlying the ice age clay. The darker layer mid-profile shows how water drains freely through the soil until it reaches the relatively impermiable clays below. The squiggly dark line in the clay from centre to right could possibly be site of ancient tree root.
