I've often wondered about this distinctive, wart-like feature at about 450-500m on the west flank of the hill, visible from my house in Broadford. On closer inspection, it turns out to be a doleritic plug, which protrudes about 5-6m through the surrounding granite. Provided good shelter from the wind!
