Loch Cnoc a' Chrochaire - closer view

The lochan is full to overflowing, though the surrounding ground is not especially boggy just now. In spite of the water being clear, the bottom of the lochan cannot be seen. Probing with a hiking pole revealed that the sides of the lochan are almost vertical, and I could not touch the bottom with a 4-foot pole. Perhaps someone could explain how such a feature might have formed?
