At first I had taken this to be another old railway bridge, but the linear feature still shown on the map is the line of the aqueduct from Talla Reservoir in Upper Tweeddale to Edinburgh - it is marked as 'Course of Conduit Edinburgh & Dist. W.T.' on the 1921-30 OS 1" Popular edition sheet 74, which can be seen on the National Library of Scotland website http://maps.nls.uk/os/view/?sid=74400710#zoom=5&lat=28280&lon=23380&layers=BT
