Towyn.-- Watering-place, market town, and par. with ry. sta., Merioneth, on the coast, near the mouth of the river Dysynni, 3 miles NW. of Aberdovey and 10 miles S. of Barmouth, 26,372 ac. (2230 water), pop. 3365; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Friday. The beach consists of remarkably hard smooth sand, extending about 5 miles, favourable for bathing, walking, or riding, and attracts great numbers of visitors. In the church is a very remarkable inscribed pillarstone, called St Cadfan's stone. Towyn is a centre for anglers.
