Penarth.-- seaport town and par. (ry. stations Penarth and Penarth Dock), Glamorgan, on S. side of Cardiff Bay, 3 m. S. of Cardiff - par., 874 ac. and 249 tidal water and foreshore, pop. 4963; town (comprising also Cogan and Llandough near Penarth pars.), pop. 6228; P.O., T.O., and P.O., T.O. at Penarth Docks; 1 Bank. The dock covers an area of 174, acres, and is one of the most important in the Bristol Channel. Penarth has increased materially in size and importance, and is much frequented as a seaside resort. The town is a local government district.
